EDITORIAL FOREWORD

Our country has withdrawn from the League ofNations in which she had participated from the timeof its birth, not because she is unwilling to take partin the work of promoting the peace of the world,but because of her earnest desire to bring aboutreal and permanent peace which shall be based oninternational righteousness. Any one who considersJapan as an imperialistic, war- loving nation isgreatly mistaken. Those who have thoroughlystudied the racial traits and ideas, education andculture of the Japanese, will have no difficulty informing the right idea of the real nature of Japanand the Japanese; but those who have never hadany opportunity of making an inquiry into our peopleare liable to have a mistaken view of our nation.

It was because of this need for true knowledgeabout our people that our League of Japanese Uni-versity Professors published a pamphlet written bythe late Dr. Honaga entitled The Real Nature ofJapan and the Japanese," for general distributionamong the universities and prominent people inother countries.
