He met the prophetElijah who brought him to the maid that was to become hiswife. Through the marriage festivities he neglected the Torahfor seven days. As punishment for his neglect the prophet soldhim into slavery for seven years. His wife built a house;her servant tilled the field and all the world came to her tobuy food. Her husband also came with his master afterfive years. She recognised him but he returned to slaveryfor the remaining two years. His wife did not murmuragainst the decree of God.
328( 49)[ f. 325b]. King Solomon was asked why hewrote that he had not found one woman faithful out ofa thousand. He replied that he would prove it. He askedone of his servants to kill his wife whom he loved andpromised him one of his daughters instead. At the lastminute the man drew back and spared her life. King Solo-mon then called the woman and asked her to kill her husband,promising to marry her. Her gave her a sword made oflead. She indeed tried to kill him but the sword, being of leadwas blunt and she could not kill him. He thus proved thata man is more faithful than a woman.

After a time the man wasbrought by his creditor before King David, who condemnedhim to pay an enormous amount, as it was claimed thatfrom the egg a chicken could be hatched which would lay18 eggs, from which 18 chickens would be hatched and thenagain 18 etc. The man is met by Solomon who being toldof the judgment advised him to sow boiled peas in the
