Editorial
On the cover you see an unusual view of our courtyard in Laudongasse. It is recognizable only by the plane tree, which – relieved of a few branches for the crane – is keeping watch over the construction work. Beginning in 2027, the Hof der Kulturen will be established here as a permanent workshop center – a lively place where the city, in all its diversity, can be shaped. The exhibition Dings happen, on view from October 3 to 12 at the SOHO Studios and accompanied by workshops and guided tours, offers insight into the work and visions of the project. You can get to know the four fellows in interviews starting on p. 30.
Other highlights this fall include the opening of the permanent intervention massiv unsichtbar, which addresses the history of the air-raid shelter in Schönbornpark, as well as the ORF Long Night of Museums with a program at the Otto Wagner Areal. While in Laudongasse walls, floors, and ceilings are being torn open , some quiet will return – at least in terms of the density of events – to our temporary quarters at the OWA, once the year-long program Through the Dark has concluded. Meanwhile, preparations for the reopening of the museum are in full swing in the offices.
There are also changes in staff: At the end of August we bade farewell to Claudia Peschel-Wacha, our expert on ceramics and long-standing deputy director, who retired after 21 years. In September, Nico Weiß, responsible for human resources and administration, will also leave us to take on a new position in the public service. We will miss them both and wish them all the best!
New from this issue: the Austrian Ecolabel on the back cover. Thanks to our printing house, the production of this newsletter is now certified. We aim to extend this change to the entire museum operation with the reopening.
